It was reported that Babar Azam opposes to become the captain of Peshawar Zalmi in the PSL 2025 season. Prior to the stepping down from Pakistan’s national cricket team captaincy Babar had turned down an opportunity to captain the Stallions team during the Champions One Day Cup. Subsequently, Mohammad Haris, Wasim Akram, took Babar to a few of his close pals, and they resorted to telling him that he should not bother himself with any leadership position because it was enough that he bat.
Currently, it is quite clear that Babar has not been good enough in international cricket in Test, ODI as well as T20 cricket. He can never make a fifty in the last twenty one innings of the series. This low form has made people worried about his present day performance and is damaging Pakistan cricket as well. It has also raised questions on whether he will even have a place in the playing XI in T20 format ?

Under the circumstances, Babar Like playing for Peshawar Zalmi as a player not a captain. This is not the best of news for the team management because they are left with a tough decision to make for PSL 2025 captaincy. Along with that it also remained unclear that who between Babar Azam or Mohammad Haris will heading the teams. Haris has also not shied away in expressing his prowess as an opener batsman in PSL as he once said that it is easy making a fifty as an opener in this league. Some people regarded such comment as indirect criticism of Babar’s performance.
Earlier, both players were part of the Stallions team with Haris being the captain and Babar being the player. Haris was later given the Pak Shaheen’s captaincy, but he suffered as an opener and was later moved down to one, a position he occupies for Peshawar Zalmi whenever Babar and Saim Ayub open the batting.
